Get ready to shimmy and shake as Dr. Salil Bidaye from the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience takes the stage for "LIVE@Frost Science: The Neurons That Make You Move" on October 23. He'll be diving headfirst into the mind-boggling world of movement, using the tiny brains of insects, particularly fruit flies, to reveal just how these little critters manage to strut their stuff through complex environments. You might think a robot can dance, but have you seen a fruit fly navigate a crowded room? Spoiler alert: they've got some serious moves.
Join us at the Frost Planetarium where the doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the fun begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. Just a heads up, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, so you might want to arrive with the urgency of a fly avoiding a swatter. Dr. Bidaye will chat about how his lab is mixing genetics, imaging, and a sprinkle of AI magic to crack the code on how neurons pull off those precise dance moves we all secretly envy. And no, museum admission isn't included, but who needs exhibits when you've got insect brain science and a chance to learn something new?
